National Bureau of Statistics: Starting from August, the release of the urban survey unemployment rate of young people of different ages nationwide will be suspended.

CCTV News:The State Council Office held a press conference on the operation of the national economy in July 2023. Fu Linghui, spokesperson of the National Bureau of Statistics and director of the National Economic Statistics Department, introduced at the meeting that since August this year, the release of the urban survey unemployment rate of young people of all ages in China will be suspended, mainly because the economy and society are constantly developing and changing, the statistical work needs to be continuously improved, and the labor force survey statistics need to be further improved and optimized. For example, in recent years, among the young people in cities and towns in China, the number of students at school has been expanding. In 2022, there were more than 96 million urban youths aged 16-24 in China, including more than 65 million students. The main task of students in school is to study. Whether students looking for jobs before graduation should be included in the labor force survey and statistics, there are different views in various sectors of society, which need further study. For another example, with the improvement of the education level of Chinese residents, the study time of young people in school has increased. In the labor force survey statistics, the definition of the age range of young people also needs further study.

In view of these situations, the National Bureau of Statistics will conduct in-depth research to further improve the labor force survey statistics and better reflect the employment situation. We welcome valuable opinions from all walks of life and make joint efforts to promote the continuous improvement of statistical work and better serve economic and social development.
